Portraiture in a Thousand Marks

Week Four!

This week, we will draw on alternative sketchbook paper!

The prompt is called, Portraiture in a Thousand Marks. This requires you to draw with a thousand marks. Think about the concept of gesture drawings and searching for the right line to give the essence of the person or object you are depicting. You can draw anything. With a ballpoint pen, you will not be able to erase to correct. You will, instead, draw over the lines until you find the right one. Draw the lines in repetition, build value and emotion.
The materials that you will need are ballpoint pen(s) and any kind of paper with text. As you can see from the student examples below, you may utilize book pages, music sheets, or parts of a vinyl record.
